There is a $4.32 fee on every city resident's MLGW bill to maintain streetlights. Despite frequent complaints to city hall, Cordova residents are still forced to pay up. Cordova residents are going on 6 months paying for street lights they don't have. Now they're feeling ignored by city leaders.

So let me get this straight...The City of Memphis is charging citizens for a service they don't get, they get repair bills for sidewalks they don't own, & last March when Commissioner Boyd tried to pass a waiver for these residents in Cordova.....IT FAILED???
Gee Whiz Wally I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to be annexed into the "I'll gladly make you pay today for some streetlights we may or may not install Tuesday or evahhhhhh!" City of Memphis.
You may remember the city annexed this section of Cordova against their will, charged them taxes retroactively, and the hits just keep on coming.....
On a positive note, The Tennessee General Assembly passed a law that requires the city to let the residents vote on whether or not they want to be annexed and to get a majority of the votes before they can annex. Considering that Tennessee was only one of three states who allowed forced annexation, it's awfully nice of the ruling elite to allow the people a vote, but we will take what we can get.
If you want to support a group that helped get the annexation bill passed and is now working on a De-Annexation bill for Cordova, you can follow them on their Cordova's Voice Facebook page.
