Steve Basar above, thinks Heidi Shafer right, is bullying him into voting the "right" way. People are starting to wonder about your obsession with only Shafer, in not voting the "right" way. The "right" way to Steve is...voting for him for chairman....Why does he only call out Shafer when there are 3 other MEN that were involved with that same vote? |
Everyone thought with Chairman Harvey's departure that there would be no more political gamemanship by a democrat going along with the republicans for political gain. Hmmm I wonder what benefits Harvey gained? And with Mike Ritz gone, that would mean the end to the Republican in cahoots with the democrats for political gain. Apparently though, Ford has replaced Harvey and Basar has replaced Ritz.
All of this in regard to the votes that sent Chairman Ford's appointees back to committee to be reconsidered. No chairman has ever been denied his appointments. Sheesh...is there no respite from the political storm? Did Basar not mean any of what he said at the committee meeting last Wednesday when he stated this ? "I don't know why anyone thought I wasn't going to vote to confirm these appointments"...He went on to say he was only doing a favor for an elder statemen (39 years a Commissioner Bailey and also licking his wounds about not being elected chairman) to send these appointments back to committee.
So, between last Wednesday and today's article in the Commercial Appeal, Basar must have been whining to Otis Sanford about how Republican commissioners and others had picked on him for voting with the Democrats. Steve Basar said this at the last committee meeting on Wednesday “For the people here today and people listening and whatever, it’s indeed unfortunate that the new litmus test for being a Republican is his or her ability to follow the herd and vote as a bloc,” he said. Oh the horrors of the political game. Can you believe it? People actually questioning Basar's vote to deny the chairman (the 1st time ever happening in Shelby County History) his appointments? Oh my, how will Commissioner Basar make it through the next 4 years if he thinks people calling out his politically expedient vote to deny Chairman Ford's appointments because he had a case of the sour grapes ...is really BULLYING? Man-up dude. You are in a for rude awakening.
He goes on to say in this article that he thinks Heidi Shafer is behind the bullying. REALLY??? I'm starting to get a feeling here that Basar may have a problem with women in positions of leadership. Shafer did vote against Basar for chairman but she voted for a more experienced Republican, Terry Roland. Yo Basar....so did David Reaves and Mark Billingsly. I have never ONCE heard you call out your MALE Republican commissioners for not voting for you. At the Republican Steering Committee meeting, who did you name and call for the party to challenge HER Republican credentials for nominating and voting for a democrat Justin Ford? I'm sure you guessed it...FEMALE Heidi Shafer. Why not call out Commissioner Terry Roland for not voting for you? Why not call out Commissioners Reaves and Billingsly for not voting for you and also voting for the democrat Ford? Is Heidi supposed to fall in line and submit to your MALE superiority? What gives? What's your obsession with Shafer? Republican Shelby County citizens want to know....especially the female ones...
Let me sum up what Otis thinks is going on here...Bailey (39 years a commissioner and elder statesman) felt he had been dissed by Ford’s election as chairman when he (39 years a commissioner Bailey) wanted the job. 39 years a commissioner Bailey also didn’t like Ford reappointing Shafer as chair of the budget and finance committee. 39 years a commissioner Bailey led a coup (with the help of Steve Basar) to reconsider Ford’s committee appointments in an effort to show Chairman Ford who is boss.
And my summation:
Basar jumped on 39 years a commissioner's sour grapes train simply because he has a not so healthy obsession with Shafer and he thinks she’s heading up a plot to keep the Basar man down. Dude, I know Billingsly, Reeves and Roland, so trust me when I say this...she's not leading them around like the puppy dogs you think they are. They are grown men and can make decisions all by themselves.
Perhaps I am missing something and sweet little ol Heidi Shafer is the Don Corleone of Shelby County...in which case, I'll have what she's having because she's the only female on the commission and 1 of 6 republicans and 7 democrats and seems to be running the show?
Politics is dirty. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but when you lose you suck it up and move on. You don't fixate on one commissioner...who just so happens to be the girl, and assume she's the cause of all your problems. Have you tried looking in the mirror? There might be something there...just sayin...
Tomorrow will be very interesting...I hope to see some new citizens there...
