Monday is the Shelby County Commission meeting. Shelby County will be voting on the 3rd and final reading for setting the property tax rate. Mayor Luttrell wants to lower it by one cent and Steve Mulroy wants to raise it 4 cents and take 2.8 million dollars out of the budget to fund a new pre-k program. You know, since they have done so well with the consolidated school system. OK maybe not so good, but hey, they have such good intentions right?
Shelby County cannot afford to raise the property tax rate once again and we certainly don't need to be creating whole new programs when the county has so much debt and problems with the current education system. As with the email regarding the city, your presence and contact with the commissioners is the one tool in our toolbox that will help influence the vote.
