Five minutes in, they took their protest to the middle of the street, resulting in nine arrests. (A whopping 6 from Memphis and 3 who were brought in from out of town, WOW! So much demand for a 15$ hamburger? Stop the presses...6 PEOPLE FROM MEMPHIS GOT ARRESTED FIGHTING FOR THE 15$ HAMBURGER!)
City Councilman Myron Lowery shook his head as protestors blocked traffic on Poplar. (Awwww he shook his head, he feels your pain....suckers!)
"I agree with the issue and why they're protesting. I disagree with their tactics," he said. "Some of them wanted to be arrested and they were. All they had to do was to get a permit for this protest and it would have been lawful."
For those who didn't get arrested, they marched on.
"They have a good point, they need to be making more than $7.25 an hour," Lowery said. (And the police and fire didn't need their benefits cut but YOU voted for that...the free market decides what wages are if you guys would leave the free market alone and remove the onerous regulations that inhibit growth, that would do more for the job market than a job killing higher minimum wage.)
Lowery says he plans to propose an ordinance that would gradually raise the minimum wage in Memphis. (Memphis does not have a good environment for business growth but by all means...continue on motivating people and new business growth....FOR DESOTO AND FAYETTE COUNTIES.)
