Tuesday is the next Memphis City Council meeting. Most important on the agenda is setting the property tax rate. It is already on the 3rd and final reading. The ever-so-intelligent-exemplary-always-looking-out-for-the-taxpaying-citizens City Council wants to lower your tax rates! NOT. they want to raise your taxes even though Memphis' tax rates are higher than Beverly Hills California.
So what can you do? Let your legislators know that raising taxes is not an option. This vote on taxes has been kept quiet by the media. They know we're watching so hope for a quiet vote to increase taxes on Tuesday.
Here's how to fight it. The Council meeting starts at 3:30 at City Hall(160 N Main). Your attendance is one of the few tools you have for effecting the vote. I can't stress enough how important your presence is, especially if you are willing to speak out.
If you can't attend the meeting, please call and email the council and tell them not to raise your property taxes. The following link is for emailing the councilmen. If you want to call, (901) 636-6786 to request a specific councilman or you can leave a message for all.
