MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Every year Lifeblood supplies more than 100,000 units of blood for patient transfusions.
That's why your help is needed.
It is crucial Lifeblood gets donations right now.
They typically like to keep a three day supply on the shelves, but they're down to a one day supply of O- blood type, which is used very often to treat trauma patients and babies at Le Bonheur.
Lifeblood is the only local non-profit blood center in the Mid-South.
One pint can help three local patients because the blood is divided into plasma, platelets, and red blood cells.
"Our Alex machine is our double red machine, so whenever you donate on that as opposed to just whole blood, we're taking two units of just the red cells. So it's just a little bit longer donation, but we're returning saline, plasma, and platelets back to you so you feel refreshed and ready to go for the rest of the day," Jennifer Gladstone of Lifeblood said.
