PRETORIA, South Africa — Former Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius will spend five years in prison for the death of his girlfriend.
Tuesday, a South African judge gave Pistorius a five-year sentence for culpable homicide.
He was also given a three-year sentence on a firearms charge, but it was suspended.
Pistorius was found guilty of the 2013 shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp this summer after a long and highly publicized trial.
Pistorius maintained that he shot the 29-year-old Steenkamp by accident inside his South African home. He believed she was an intruder.
