I attended the Shelby County Republican Steering Committee meeting last night because I had heard that Commission Basar might be there and speak on something. Not wanting to miss out on any shenanigans, I willed myself to go after work. It did not disappoint. But when I returned home and was speaking to myself about what had occurred so I could recap it, Lafayette buried his face in the corner. He had had enough of the political games and selfishness from the human race which he is reliant on for his existence. Thankfully, he is mostly reliant on this humble and striving everyday not to be a selfish human which is more than I can say for Commissioner Basar.
The meeting was mostly uneventful: committee reports, new business, and other stuff I won't bore you with. Commissioner Basar stood up to make some comments on how he appreciated being able to serve the people and that even though we don't always agree, we can agree to disagree. He noted that he did not appreciate being called out in the media by fellow commissioners questioning his republicanism, or conservatism. I don't remember the exact wording and I'm not sure what he was referring to but you could tell something stuck in his craw and you could tell he had been waiting to get this off of his chest. He specifically called out Commissioner Shafer and said that she should have to answer for her nominating Justin Ford a democrat...GASP!!! and that she should have nominated a republican and by republican he of course means Steve Basar.
If you recall my from last Keeping Up With The Kommissioners report, I noted that Steve Basar was butt-hurt. Well, Steve Basar is still butt-hurt. That's what all of this was about. Oh my...where to begin...
On the calling out of Commissioner Shafer for nominating Justin Ford? Let me do a little explaining...The commissioners that were nominated for chairman...
- Terry Roland
- Walter Bailey
- Justin Ford
- Steve Basar
Bailey -- 6; Basar -- 2; Ford -- 2; and Roland -- 3
Notice how Roland got 3, and Basar got 2....that's important though a glossed over fact that Basar refuses to see. Now, Basar is upset because the republicans didn't unite and vote for him. He asks the question...why didn't the others vote for me? The real question is....Why didn't you (Basar) support Roland who has more seniority, and more support from his fellow republicans than you? There was a statement at last nights meeting regarding this fact. Apparently, Basar thought he was the only republican who could have been elected and he says the democrats would have voted for him if the republicans had been united...That's Poppycock! You need to gather the support from your base 1st before you go outside of the party Mike Ritz, oops, I mean Steve Basar. You had 2 votes, other than yourself, you only had 1 vote. Not exactly a sign that the other republicans should go out on a limb for you hoping the other democrats would vote for you.
Speaking of another issue you mentioned last night. You said that commissioners were throwing out baseless charges of not voting Republican enough and that there was no evidence to back up their claims. Au Contraire Mon Frère! I object! I have been to the commission meetings on many occasions but I will speak of 2 votes that were a sign of things to come and that led me to believe that you are being possessed by the demon spirit of Mike Ritz.
You spoke last night of being a low taxes small government kind of guy? Then why did you vote to increase the property rate in 2013? Guess who you voted along with to give Shelby County a property tax rate increase?
Pay special attention to the republicans who voted for this...ONE republican, yes I know that Ritz is technically a republican but no republican considers Mike Ritz a Republican and they haven't since way before this vote...
AYES:Commissioner Brooks D, Commissioner Harvey D, Commissioner Mulroy D, Commissioner Ford D, Commissioner Basar R?, Commissioner Chism D, Commissioner Bailey D, Commissioner Burgess D, Commissioner Ritz D
As you ruminate on the list...consider this fact. In order for this to have passed, they needed nine votes so what would have happened if Basar had voted NO, yes boys and girls, Shelby County wouldn't have raised your property tax rate. So yes butt-hurt Steve Basar, I do question your low taxes small government stance...you raised my freaking property tax rate last year and I'm still mad about it.
Also...I seem to recall last year's election of the chairman and vice chair. We had a chance to vote in a very qualified republican as the vice chair, Heidi Shafer. Who kept her from getting that position? None other than Mike Ritz reincarnated Steve Basar. Keep in mind, Basar was the newest member to the commission. Shafer had been on the commission since 2010. So I'm curious, Stevie boy, if you wanted support for yourself, maybe you should have given support. You know, do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Also, guess who ended up with the vice chair position? Yes, I know you guessed it, Mike Ritz reincarnated in Steve Basar.
So just to recap, I have pointed out...with evidence that Steve Basar likes tax increases, wasn't a republican team player from the get go, and don't even get me started on the green projects that are free because crack money( Grants) pays for it like the Loosahatchie Bridge that will connect one crime-infested area with another crime-infested area and other bike related projects Basar likes because Basar is an avid bike rider. If you are a low tax small government republican, you should let the free market and and the private sector dictate those sorts of things but that's an issue even republicans need to wrap their brains around and have a reassessment on.
Politics is dirty and Basar seems to have a thin skin. If he can't move on from the fact that NO ONE supported him for chairman, he needs to find a new line of work. As for me, I still want an answer on why Basar didn't support Roland...until October 13th...stay tuned!
