MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)--Is Shelby County Commissioner Henri Brooks using your money to promoteher campaign for Juvenile Court Clerk?
Brooks sent out a booklet to voters across the county and Shelby County taxpayers paid for it.
"It just kind of stuck to my craw," said Doug Ivy.
He's talking about a book that lists the names, numbers and emails of elected officials and government offices. The cost to mail it to taxpayers was $1.61 a piece.
"I kind of thought it was odd that, why are we spending this much money to mail stuff out? Of course, I do understand that she is running for Juvenile Court Clerk," said Ivy.
To be clear, nowhere on or in the book does it mention that Brooks is running for office.
"It looks like campaign literature to me. That's what it looks like to me. I don't know what it looks like to someone else, but to me, it looks like they want me to vote for them," said Ivy.
Ivy is also skeptical because he doesn't live anywhere near Brooks' county commission district. Adding, if money is going to be spent, why is Brooks the only commissioner pictured on the front? The booklet also includes a letter from Brooks.
"Please accept this 'Know Your Government' book as a token of my appreciation," read Ivy.
"If it had the government seal or something like that, I would think it was just a mailout. But when you get something like that, with a picture on it, it's hard for it to not be what it is," continued Ivy.
Mulroy and many of the commissioners don't want to comment on the booklet, but behind the scenes, they are asking many of the same questions.
"I don't like my tax money being wasted on mailouts like this," said Ivy.
Neither do we Ivy...neither do we.
