DARBY, Pa. — A doctor in Pennsylvania is credited with stopping a man who opened fire in a hospital.
Police say Richard Plotts, a psychiatric patient, got upset and fired several shots Thursday.
Dr. Lee Silverman, who was grazed, reportedly pulled out his own gun and shot Plotts three times in the torso and chest.
Plotts is in critical condition.
According to the district attorney, Plotts shot and killed a case worker who accompanied him to his appointment.
Police say had it not been for Dr. Silverman, Plotts may have continued shooting in the hospital’s hallways.
Donald Molineux, chief of the Yeadon Police Department, told philly.com, he “without a doubt saved lives.”
A spokesperson for the hospital said it is against hospital policy for anyone other than security guards to be armed.
