CORDOVA, TN (localmemphis.com) - Two dogs tied to a tree, a bag of food nearby, and a heartbreaking note containing a heartfelt plea from their owner.

Blue and Bella, as they are introduced in the note, were found outside a Cordova animal clinic.

The owner mentioned in the note he or she was facing eviction and had no choice but to give the two dogs up. They were left outside the vet in hopes that workers could find them a new place to live.

Dozens are now trying to find them a good home after their story has taken off on social media.

"I hate to know I will never see them again. But I know this is better for them both" the note said.

It was written by what sounds like a heartbroken owner that was facing eviction and could not move to keep to the dogs.

The owner wrote, "I've had Blue since he was a puppy. Bella is just a puppy...playful, friendly and just mastered potty training...I am trusting with all my heart you find them a home because I can't provide one any longer."

"Obviously these people cared. They even left the bag of food. I guess they felt this was the only thing they can do," said Ona Cooper with Memphis Pets Alive. She is one of those sharing their story.

"When someone has to give up their animal and they don't want to turn that animal into a shelter, there's really no place to go. They can call rescue groups, but we're all full," Cooper said. "There are a lot of dogs turned into vet offices and they don't get this type of networking. They don't get all the exposure. A lot end up at the shelter because of it."

Cooper admits it is never ideal to give up a dog like this.

Memphis Pets Alive is working on alternatives to help those who do not know where else to turn. They even have a food pantry for pets. It has been open about a year, just this week their 501c3 status was granted.

"That keeps animals in their home. We're trying to line up and gather info on where people can go for low cost spay and neutering, vaccinations-- anything to keep those animals in the home," Cooper said.

We are told the dogs will stay at the Berryhill Animal Hospital until they find them a suitable home or foster.

This was a very humane thing to do but very sad. The Midsouth Sentinel will keep her in our prayers...
