An Open Letter To Citizen Activists In Tn The Day After Election Day

8/8/2014

The primaries came and went and the establishment won most of the races although on a more local level, there are several new and really good faces that will be helping to steer the party in the right direction. (Congratulations Kathy Bryson State Exec Committeewoman District 6 and Karen Bracken Polk County Commissioner District 2)

Lamar Alexander won, probably the biggest disappointment of all, and the Republican Party's march to crush the tea party is in full swing. I am not as disappointed as most because I know that elections don't change things, people do.

The problem we have in America is with the people. Lack of education about what their leaders are really doing (see Lamars dishonest commercials about how hard he fought against Obamacare even though he voted to fund it, his dishonest commercials about amnesty saying he voted against it) which is why Lamar had to lie to get re-elected.

But what did he really win? His party's continued march toward Whigdom? Do you think the Whigs saw the demise of their party coming while it was going on? They didn't and the Republicans don't either.

This election is what it is, just another election. The sun will still rise in the east and set in the west and the citizens that love this country, tea party or not, will continue to get engaged and fight to reclaim the power that is supposed to reside in the people. The outcome of elections shouldn't deter anyone from their civic duties which go way beyond voting.

The old and washed up figureheads of the Republican Party are not the future of what will turn this country around. YOU ARE the future so fret not, all is not lost and before you return the federal level of politics to any sense of sanity, you are going to have to save your local state communities first. If you feeling discouraged today about not being able to vote out even the most liberal of Republicans, turn that discouragement into action. Go to your local meetings, go to your state meetings if you live nearby and make an effort to make the trip there once in awhile if you don't live nearby. All politics is local and you do have power at the local level, if you don't believe, drop me an email (midsouthsentinel@gmail.com) I can tell you all about it.

Elections won't fix things, YOU will. After the people are engaging in the governing process that they should have been all along, THEN and only then will elections reflect the righteous actions of it's citizens. It's all out order right now but the journey of thousand miles begins with one step and the infamous words of John Paul Jones....I have not yet begun to fight!

So join me, join your fellow citizens activists who are already engaged in the fight and find out what you can do to change things. As I have said before here, Obama was right about one thing...."We are the ones we have been waiting for"...so what are you waiting for? Elections? You can change things without waiting for elections...will you answer the call?

Joe Carr's numbers are very, very encouraging to me. So is the incredibly sophisticated grass roots campaigning done on his behalf. Tennesseeans who really care about public policy issues and who believe in citizens' responsibilities to hold elected officials accountable had a great day on the long march toward real accountability.

I know that along with me, the loss of many of these races are a real let-down but this election is not over until November. National and state candidates are just starting and need your help. Not many of them are wealthy people, just ordinary folks willing to put themselves out for brutal abuse in order to get the chance to go to Washington DC or Nashville, TN and make a effort to change the direction this country is taking. Their opponents are wealthy and can afford the large billboards and snappy tv commercials. Don't just give up. Look at who is still in this election and put your time and energy into helping to push them across the finish line. Find and Like them on facebook and then share their posts among your friends, retweet their twitter comments, donate some time to their campaign, put one or two of their signs in your yard, stand on the corner with one of thier signs and wave to passing cars, or make a money donation.
