BACKGROUND
At the last County Commission meeting 30 patriots came out to tell their stories about how Covid restrictions & lockdowns are destroying their lives and futures. Their stories were powerful and persuasive. We were planning on going back tomorrow with even more patriots, but the County Commission just announced they’re going back to online meetings, blaming Covid.
But is our constitution void in a pandemic or state of emergency? NO! Our American Revolution was fought in the middle of a smallpox epidemic! Our County Charter states, “The charter shall not infringe on any of the rights guaranteed by the State (Article 2, section 22 and Article 11, section 16) and Federal Constitution”. Meetings must remain open but our elected & unelected officials have restricted our freedoms while we citizens have been asleep. Now we’re reaping the consequences.
Currently our only redress of grievance is to email County Commissioners with questions and comments, yet there’s no requirement for them to be read during online meetings. That means NO checks and balances for the Shelby County Mayor or the Health Department. They have removed themselves from the public square so they don't have to listen to comments or questions from us. A clear violation of our First Amendment rights.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
If you own a small business, gym, or restaurant your stories are needed. If you can share your experience about the inhumane Covid rules which are keeping our elderly isolated in nursing homes, our children trapped at home behind tablets and away from friends, the destruction of our financial futures, or any other Covid-related story, please come out tomorrow to speak out or support those of us who are. While the County Commission is hiding online, we the people will hold a public meeting in the public square on Periscope and share our grievances with the people who rule over us.
