Dear Friend,
All of you are aware of the bloody terrorist attack which took place in Brussels, Belgium earlier this week - the latest in a series of such attacks which have rocked Europe over the past several months. Make no mistake, radical Islamic terrorists would like nothing better than to carry out similar attacks on American soil.
Without a better system in place, and in the absence of any cooperation from the federal government, I believe that resettlement of refugees from countries like Iraq and Syria in the U.S. creates a serious threat of terrorists infiltrating our country. And yet another major national security official has admitted the danger refugee resettlement creates. In recent testimony to the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said, "I do agree that the refugee flow coming out of Iraq and Syria represents a potential opportunity for terrorist organizations to move its members into other nations for potential attacks."
Over 3900 people have signed a petition supporting a resolution I introduced to protect the sovereignty of our state and the safety of its people from the threat posed by refugee resettlement. I'm thrilled by the response so far, but we can't let up yet. My goal is to get 5000 signatures by the end of this month. Will you help me reach it?
Please share the petition on social media and e-mail it to your family and friends. I intend to present this petition to the General Assembly, the Attorney General, and the Governor unless they take action quickly to address this threat. The names of 5000 passionate and engaged Tennesseans gathered in such a short period of time will send a powerful message. Please help us today.
