Meanwhile the holier than thou Ben Affleck has apologized for groping Hilarie Burton....the day after he criticized Harvey Weinstein for his behavior....
On October 5th the New York Times published a shocking expose on Harvey Weinstein ....Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades
Harvey Weinstein is a bad dude....and everyone in Hollywood knew it...
From The Observer....Well, the answer is they didn’t miss it. They had the story, they were just too cowardly to publish it. As Sharon Waxman of TheWrap has written, she tried to break the story herself for the New York Times in 2004.
“The paper had a story on mogul’s sexual misconduct back in 2004 — but gutted it under pressure…I was told at the time that Weinstein had visited the newsroom in person to make his displeasure known. I knew he was a major advertiser in the Times, and that he was a powerful person overall.”
....
Since this story has broken, most of Hollywood has remained silent and only when Harvey was permanently removed from the board of his own company did some celebrities start speaking out. Many claim this was the biggest open secret in Hollywood and yet people like Ben Affleck are claiming they knew nothing about it. Rose McGowan who was one of the women Harvey assaulted and is very adamant in her claim that Ben knew everything.
I hope Ambra Battalana can take solace in the fact that his behavior is no longer being swept under the rug. How many other actresses were paid off and just stayed silent? She tried to expose him and the NYPD covered up for the rapist...Let that sink in.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina
Jolie and Others Say
Weinstein Harassed Them
She refused his advances, she said, and confided in Brad Pitt, her boyfriend at the time. Mr. Pitt confronted Mr. Weinstein, and soon after, the producer threatened her not to tell anyone else about his come-on. “I thought he was going to fire me,” she said.
OK that's good but then we go on to read this....
Like several of the other women interviewed for this article, she felt she had to suppress the experience. She praised Mr. Weinstein publicly, posed for pictures with him and played the glowing star to his powerful producer. Yet their work relationship grew rockier over the years, she said, and she distanced herself. “He was alternately generous and supportive and championing, and punitive and bullying,” she said.
"She praised him publicly, and posed for pictures with him and played the glowing star to his powerful producer"
She exchanged fame and fortune for doing the right thing. He went on to sexually abuse many others. If women want praise for being strong and independent women then why do so many rely on others to protect them? Ambra tried and was betrayed...Gwyneth stayed silent and continued with the charade.
The stories now coming out are seemingly endless. I'm sure there will be many more. Three decades is a long time to be let loose to destroy and dominate people with less power than you. I'll leave you with a video of David Chappelle discussing the toxic environment in Hollywood. It's all starting to make sense now....
