Confrontational Politics
By H.L Richardson
Confrontational Politics is for the man/woman who wants to engage in the political realm not because it’s interesting but because it’s necessary. It’s for those interested in winning, something our establishment conservatives seem to have given up on a long time ago. So many playing the game of politics don’t fight to win, don’t know how to win, don’t have the will or fortitude to do what needs to be done. Confrontational Politics is not for the faint of heart….that’s written on the back cover and it definitely drew me in.
Senator H. L. Richardson was a Senator in California during the time of Reagan’s governorship. He was a lone conservative in a sea of liberalism even then but he was one of the most influential and productive senators. Why? Confrontational Politics explains the strategy of winning in politics that doesn’t come naturally to most conservatives, in fact, he explains the very nature of conservatives that works against them.
“The wild colors of politics deal with two of the most complicated and explosive paints on earth - power and people. However abstract, the study of the political methodology of both liberals and traditional Americans is a worthy venture.” In order to fight a war, and the struggle we are currently in is a war, we must know ourselves and our enemy. Too many on the right don’t understand their weaknesses which the left exploits 24/7. “Self-inspection hasn’t been a conservative strong suit.” The ideology is often times the hill the conservative has chosen to die on which means there are a lot of dead conservatives.
Richardson uses principles from The Art of War to try and inspire a new kind of conservatism. One that fights. One that wins. He very methodically walks you through the steps to healing conservatism….like alcoholism, you must first accept you have a problem. This book is not for the weak of heart like Glenn Beck or Ben Shapiro who gladly fall on the sword of ideology every other day and conserve nothing but their losing brand.
Confrontational Politics as the title of this book is a bit misleading. You read it and automatically imagine in your face type confrontations. That’s not at all what it’s about. The main take away is in my opinion is if you want to fight a war to win, you have to learn strategy. No one ever won a war because they were right. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get in the game of politics to influence their leaders and in turn influence legislation. It might sound kind of boring but like Mark Twain once said “If you are going to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they are going to kill you” which Richardson certainly does. Check out some of these chapter titles….
- I Win, You Lose….Then you lose some more
- Making Lemonade With Rough Hands
- Dogs, Snakes, Jack Asses and Leftists
- No More Old, Depressing, Conservative Games- It’s Time To Have Fun
- Let’s Stop Just Playing Defense and Roll Some Big Snowballs
This book is for those who see the small amount of people fighting effectively and you want to have a multiplier effect for maximum gain and leave a better world for our children. Remember, it was only about 3% of the people who took up arms in the Revolution, and about 10% who supported it in other ways. It doesn't take a majority to prevail but an irate tireless minority keen on setting the brushfires of freedom in the hearts of men. Confrontational Politics is really The Art of War for freedom.
