Another day, another scandal...
Stay tuned....
"Sources are telling RTP that hot on the heels of the TCAP train wreck may be yet another testing screw-up administered by the state Dept. of Education. If that is the case, RTP will bring you the news as soon as we can confirm."

“I think the law is pretty clear on what they’re supposed to be doing, and anybody who messes with the scores should lose their job,” Beavers, a Mount Juliet Republican, said. One political consultant/attorney, Steve Gill of Gill Media, also questioned whether the department has the legal authority to waive state law. Tennessee Code Annotated 49-1-617 requires TCAP scores to be included in students’ grades, he said. State law also prohibits changing test scores, he said. “They have the scores; they don’t like the scores,” he said. “That’s not grounds to change them or to waive the school districts from complying with state law because the commissioner of education doesn’t like the way they turn out.” Everyone knows had the TCAP Scores been good or even mediocre, they would have been released without delay. Time is money, mistakes have been made, and heads should roll or at the least Huffman should resign..... "In PR and journalistic circles either Friday or better yet the Friday before a holiday week-end is the time to announce any unpleasant business. The hope being that it’s the end of the week. The news cycle is over for the week and anybody who might read it will forget about it until the next week. The bet is something more pressing will also come up. Over the years this has become a pretty successful practice."
http://norinrad10.wordpress.com/ Funny thing, Tennessee wasn’t’ the only state having trouble getting those test scores out on time. Louisiana was having issues as well. (http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20140521/NEWS0401/305210041/Late-state-test-scores-schools-scrambling) It also seems like someone else utilizes the Friday news dump as well. (http://louisianavoice.com/2014/05/17/learning-is-more-than-a-test-score-but-john-white-still-tries-to-cook-the-test-score-books-at-rsd-but-doe-staffers-refuse/) Read the link for all of the similarities between what's happening in Tn and La.... "It’s been my experience that you can get away with being non-transparent if everything is running successfully. If people’s anecdotal experience is bearing a close proximity to what your telling them, they usually won’t force the issue. However when that isn’t the case people will start taking steps to force transparency. In my opinion that time is now. The Tennessee Department of Education has had the privilege of operating on a need to know basis for too long. Its now to a point where we all have a need to know. We need to know what the actual results to these tests are. We need to see our children’s actual tests. We need to see how the cut scores are computed and we need a hearing to insure that nothing nefarious is transpiring. Mr Huffman has demonstrated an unwillingness to talk to parents about his reforms. Therefore its time for legislators to step in. Will someone please make Mr Huffman stand before the general assembly and explain just how this all came to be. We are not accusing, just asking for the suspicion to be lifted." Does One Have To Show Up to Your Job To Get Paid? Not If You Are A State Senator In Tennessee...5/27/2014 MEMPHIS, TN -(WMC) - A Memphis lawmaker is being called out for missing the most U.S. Senate votes out of all of her peers.
Attendance records show Tennessee Senator Ophelia Ford missed more than half of the legislative session, including critical votes that impacted the Mid-South. State documents show, in many cases, Ford sent letters to the lieutenant governor to say she missed votes because of her health. http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/25623345/sen-ophelia-ford-called-out-for-missing-senate-votes While we all can sympathize with anyone who has to miss work because they are sick, perhaps if you are elected to office so you can represent your constituents on crucial votes that effect their lives, you might consider resigning and letting someone fill in that can actually fulfill the duties of office and give THE PEOPLE proper representation. "When WMC Action News 5's Kontji Anthony called Sen. Ford to ask about the absences, she replied that she did not know what Kontji was talking about and said that she did attend most of her meetings. Then she hung up the phone." Must have been an attack of a very mysterious case of some physical ailment that prevented Senator Ford from answering questions from News Channel 5's Konji Anthony ....mysterious indeed. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — If you take Riverside Drive during your morning commute, you know that it’s closed, but what you may not know is this plan will be in effect for the next year and a half.
“Why didn’t I hear this? That’s crazy! It’s a major thoroughfare. I just can’t imagine them doing that,” David Simmons said. Like many, he had no idea Riverside Drive is getting a facelift. The road is going from four lanes to two. The news is official as of Tuesday. After a month of limited travel on this road, the city is retooling the way you use Riverside Drive. http://wreg.com/2014/05/27/memphis-making-more-room-for-bike-riders-pedestrians/ Those changes take effect June 6 when the road re-opens. The stretch from Beale to Georgia becomes one lane each direction, making room for bicyclists and walkers. Simmons added, “Sounds good in a committee meeting up in city hall somewhere and they just do it.” City leaders say these changes are meant to draw a younger, more creative crowd downtown. You know, because you car drivers don't matter to the city as much as "bicyclists and walkers". The idea of reducing traffic lanes and making room for bike lanes is called "traffic calming". It seems a bit backwards though sense even if you "traffic calm" particular lanes, that traffic will go elsewhere but hey, as long as we don't inconvenience the walkers and bikers, we guess it's OK. Well, no, it's not OK but you can go voice your opinion at the meeting that seeks the public's input so they can feel better about themselves for having changed your way of life so a younger more creative crowd can benefit...... Memphis) When Tonya Harvey found herself in the middle of a road rage incident on I-240, she called 911.
“A burgundy truck just hit me on the interstate and ran me off the road,” said Harvey in the 911 recording from May 8 at 7:28 a.m. Today, she’s more upset with how a 911 dispatcher handled her call when she called back three minutes later, than she is with the man who scared her on the road that day. “I am at Getwell and American Way,” said Harvey in the 911 call at 7:33 a.m. “He drove me off the road. He pulled on my door trying to get in my car and beat on my window. I am afraid. Where are the police?” “You called three minutes ago,” said the dispatcher. “I understand that, but what if he shoots me? Then what?” asked Harvey. “If he shoots you ma’am, call back in and give us that information,” said the dispatcher. “How the hell am I going to call back in if I am shot?” said Harvey. “Don’t yell at me. I am not the officer and making any…” said the dispatcher. The 911 recording ended at that point. http://wreg.com/2014/05/19/was-this-911-operator-out-of-line/ Perhaps another line of work for the uncaring 911 operator is called for but the other interesting part of the story... "Harvey admits she followed the enraged driver to a gas station on American Way and blocked him in so he wouldn’t leave until police got there. As far as she knows, the man never had a gun and did stay until police arrived." Common sense would dictate that you not follow the crazy road rage driver who just ran you off of the road (the interstate no less) and then approached your car and beat on your window. Sometimes you have to make a decision....Do you want to be right or do you want to be dead? Just sayin.... A Woman Is Beating Up a Man in Public. Would You Intervene? (Video Already Has the Answer)
http://bit.ly/1pcTLXF "You’re minding your own business, traversing a city sidewalk, when suddenly you see a physical altercation — and it involves a man and a woman. Do you intervene? Ah, but hang on a second. There’s a twist. What if the woman is beating up the man?" If everyone wants women and men to be treated equally, these double standards should end. People do tend to think of this kind of violence as funny, but is it? Doesn't the very fact that most people don't take this kind of violence seriously mean that domestic violence against men is probably under reported due to the fact that society laughs at the idea that women can be violent against men? This video and the reaction of the public is not funny to me, in fact, it is very sad. What Does A Radio Show Host's Comments Have To Do With A County Commissioner's Racist Comments?5/26/2014 When you find out, shoot us an email so we can inform the citizens of Shelby County.....
(Memphis) Just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier over controversial comments made by Shelby County Commissioner Henri Brooks, a radio host gets thrown in the mix. Read at the link below but I warn you, go ahead and wrap the duck tape around your head now..... http://bit.ly/1rbqnTN When at 1st you don't succeed in spinning your way out of a mess you created, try and divert attention to some random radio host who "supposedly" made racist comments. Though, if you would have me try and believe that Commissioner Brooks comments were taken out of context,(remember "you there with the white sheet and my people's struggle has been much harder than your peoples struggles?), well, I would be inclined to believe my idea of being taken out context might differ from those trying to slander a radio host. http://bit.ly/1r6jFOI
MEMPHIS, TN -(WMC) – "Just days after Shelby County Commissioner Henri Brooks made seemingly racist comments at the commission meeting, her campaign manager is speaking out about what happened. Brooks' campaign manager is Memphis Mayor A C Wharton's wife, Ruby Wharton. Ruby Wharton said she has yet to hear everything that was said, but that Brooks' comments were taken out of context." (Does the fact that she hasn't heard everything yet perhaps undermine what she is saying? Oh ye of Uninformed faith???) Ummmmmmmmmm pray tell us .....(while we pretend that you being the campaign chair of Brooks for Juvenile Court Clerk has nothing at all to do with your bias) how could context explain this “You with the sheet, the white sheet on?” If I didn't know any better, I would say....surely you jest Ruby Wharton! Sigh........ http://bit.ly/1jS2BZ1
